Mon, 19 Jul 2021

The Confucius Institute at Nouakchott University was officially opened on June 24, 2019. It is the first Confucius Institute in Mauritania, approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters of China/Hanban, and jointly established by Hebei University in China and Nouakchott University in Maota.  With the guidance and support from the Confucius Institute Headquarters, the active cooperation of the Chinese and foreign cooperative universities, and the close cooperation of the Chinese and foreign directors, the CI at UNU has been steadily and orderly in its image publicity, cultural activities, enrollment publicity, and system construction, which basically run well.

After the opening of the Confucius Institute at Nouakchott University, the publicity and registration work were quickly carried out.  Up to now, Confucius Institute has enrolled more than 110 students, which are divided into three basic classes and one HSK tutorial class. Since Hanban has not sent any public teachers or volunteers to Maota, we can only rely on the help of the Chinese class teachers of NUT for teaching and guidance.  All of them take Chinese teaching as the core goal and put into practice.

Since its establishment in 2019, the institute has held various cultural activities with thousands of participants.  During the opening period, the art troupe of Hebei University performed for 3 times, the campus of NU University, the Chinese Embassy in Maota, the residence of Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Maota, etc.  We will hold one activity to celebrate China's Teachers' Day.  One Confucius Institute "Open Day" was held, during which one Chinese medicine lecture was held, and one photo exhibition was held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, lasting for one week.  The colorful activities opened a window for local people to learn more about China.
